Water softener/filter is necessary if your country tap water is high in hardness. My country tap water is not very hard but I still use water filter to remove chlorine, chemicals and excess minerals to improve coffee taste. Otherwise the coffee may taste flat and bitterness. One usually should replace filter once every 3 months.

I’m not sure if DeLonghi filters are worth the price. However, I tried other aftermarket filters and they don’t work as well. The cheaper filters cause water flow problems and the espresso doesn’t seem taste as good.I change the filter every time my DeLonghi fully automatic espresso machine messages that it needs a descaling.

Inizialmente non lo usavo ed il risultato era una frequente richiesta di decalcificazioni da parte della macchinetta (una De Longhi Dedica), che alla fine si è tradotta in un'ostruzione molto veloce della caldaietta di riscaldamento dell'acqua che non sono riuscito a recuperare e che mi ha costretto alla sua sostituzione.Mi sono quindi convinto ad iniziare ad usare questi filtri e devo ammettere che il risultato è oltre le aspettative: sono passato da una decalcificazione al mese a meno due 2 all'anno!Prodotto promossissimo e per quanto mi riguarda irrinunciabile.
