Why do you need this? Let me count the reasons…

I have been using German Persil for most of my life, since I grew up there. When I moved to the States, I tried so many American detergents. While some did a pretty decent job for general cleaning, I consistently found the same issues with them all. First, they left this sticky feel to all my clothes, even with an added rinse cycle. Second, they were incredibly expensive. Third, unless you spent more money for sprays, pre soaking, or additives, stains (even new ones) were yours for life. I had six kids I was trying to pass clothes down through; I needed those stains gone. Fourth, whites kept getting dingier and colors faded quickly, even using hot and cold water respectively. Fifth, stinky boy (and husband) sweat smells never went away; they were just covered up by fragrances — lots and lots of fragrances.I went on a trip home to Germany. While my mom was helping me unpack my clothes, she kept pushing the tip of her thumb into the tip of her fingers. She felt the stickiness of my clothes, that stickiness I had decided just had to be in my mind. She started looking at my clothes. She was seeing how dingy the whites were and how faded the colors. Because she is German, she wasn’t shy about speaking up. She scooped up my clothes and brought the lot into the kitchen. If you have ever used a German washer/dryer combo machine, you know they are not that great by American standards and don’t dry worth a darn. My mom, small load by small load, ran my clothes through over and over again until they were no longer sticky and smelled like fabric, not chemically “fragrance.” There was nothing to be done for the faded colors, but the lights came bright and ancient stains disappeared. My great-aunt decided all that stickiness was sticking both dirt and stink on the fabric. We had a good laugh. For days, we ran loads through and hung them to dry. We mailed two gigantic boxes of Persil back to my home in the U.S. (at great expense, but ever so worth it).I have seen a few things in reviews that I want to clarify. Many people are using far more than they probably need to be. Those same reviews are often the ones that say Persil is expensive. I have seen reviews where people use as much as 1/3, or even 1/2 cup per load. I realize water quality and the efficacy of your washer matter, but my advice is to start with a much smaller amount and work your way up if need be. In my huge top loader, I use 2 tablespoons for a not jam packed, normal dirty load. If the clothes are a bit grubbier or the load is bigger than I might prefer, I use 3 tablespoons. For reference, 1/3 cup is equal to 5.33 tablespoons. Those who follow the graph on the back of the box might notice that larger detergent amounts are suggested. Again, American washers, even if they aren’t HE models, are far more efficient than small, under the counter models found in most German homes. That said, my mom uses the same amount I use in her small German washer (with much harder water). She finds the suggestion on the box just unnecessary. Again, I recommend experimenting. My son works in the trades, doing flood restoration and fixing company vehicles. He washes a day or two’s worth of heavy (usually Carhartt or similar, jacket, shirt, and overalls) work clothes at a time, depending upon how greasy they are. Either way, he uses 3 tablespoons. He washes on warm, never presoaks, sprays, or uses any commercial degreaser in his loads.Best thing about Persil if you have a man like him using your washer? Persil not only effectively degreases his clothes, it cleans your washer as it goes, not leaving grease coating your washer, there to ruin the next load (invariably of whites) some unsuspecting person tosses in next. My kids have had choice things to say about loads ruined in college dorms, campgrounds, wilderness work camps, etc.You will not need to run a “clean” cycle for your washer using those expensive pods meant for that task. No matter which type of Persil you buy, they all clean your washer as they clean your clothes. What about those three different kinds of Persil? Even if you don’t read German, the pictures on the box fronts clearly show one with a white shirt, one with a colored shirt, and one called “Pro” with a chef’s jacket. So, yes, most Germans will use the one with the white shirt for light colored clothes, the one with the colored shirt for their darks, and some keep a small box of Pro on hand for things they want sparkling white: special white tablecloths, white shirts for work or church, etc. However, most German households only use the non Pro versions: one for lights, one for darks. Pro is used by businesses that need workwear or linens completely spot free; households not so much as it is more damaging to fabrics (think Clorox bleach crossed with detergent powder).Much to my mom’s great dismay, I buy either the colored or light version (whichever is a better price on Amazon) and use it for everything. Stains still come out, colors still look fine, stinki...

Ich liebe dieses Waschsmittel (Translation: I love this laundry soap). It works so well in my German-made front-loading washer, clean clothes very well and gives them a nice but not overly perfumed scent. No softener ever used. While the price is a bit steep, for me, it’s worth it.

Persil Is The Best!

Persil is a wonderful soap. I have a Miele washing machine and have never used any other soap than Persil. Our clothes come out clean, whites are super white, stains come out AND your clothes smell great!

Prefer powder to liquid.

I order this as it is the only product to truly clean my clothes and towels.Powder is so much better than liquid, and although it may cost me more, I pay to get the results Persil gives me.

Game changer for whites and stains

This detergent is a total game changer. I first used it at my brother’s house and was shocked at how bright my whites came out and how well it removed stains. No residue, no dullness—just clean. My husband and I immediately decided we’re switching and staying loyal 😂 You better clock it.

Gold standard for HE laundry detergent

Been using this for years, since we bought an HE washer. When it expired, we ended up with a (free) top-loader, but continued using this because we liked the results, though we had to use a bit more. As I mentioned in the title, this detergent, in either the powder or "megapearls", remains the gold standard for use in an HE washer. It cleans well, and we happen to like its scent. You will end up using less detergent than you're used to and still obtain clean clothes. The value for money proposition is something you have to decide upon for your own. For example, the water you use to wash might not allow this detergent to dissolve or clean as it should. Likewise, you could want to wash in colder water than where this detergent has greater effect.Note: this is the stuff made in Germany -- not the clone the US branch of Henkel calls "Persil Pro Wash" or something like that. We have noticed a distinct difference between the two.

Fresh and German goodness.

I love the German version of this detergent. The US version does not work. A little goes a long way and I especially use it on white as it removes stains so well. I love the clean fresh scent. It is a tad expensive.

Clothes are very clean

I never thought that I would ever use a powder detergent again, but I’m glad that I gave this a try. Clothes, especially whites, are super clean. Smells like sunshine. I’m hooked now. I only use 1/3 c.
