How to Use

Place one bag in a cup and pour water heated to about 176 F (80 C), not boiling, since boiling water makes green tea bitter. Steep 20 to 30 seconds while gently shaking the bag three or four times, then remove it. Tip the loose matcha from the envelope into the cup before steeping for a deeper green color; some matcha will float or settle, which is normal. For cold brew, follow the recipe printed inside the box flap. Store the box sealed in a cool, dry cupboard away from strong odors.

About Kirkland Signature

Kirkland Signature is the private label of Costco Wholesale, used for products made by established manufacturers to Costco's specifications. This green tea is produced by ITO EN, Japan's largest green tea company, which also makes the Oi Ocha bottled tea range. The leaves are picked in Japanese tea gardens, steamed to preserve their green color, and dried in the traditional Japanese method. Browse more loose leaf and bagged teas in our Tea collection. Frequently Asked Questions

Does Kirkland Signature Green Tea contain allergens or caffeine?
The only ingredients are Japanese green tea leaves (sencha) and matcha green tea powder, with no flavorings, sweeteners, or major allergens declared on the box. It naturally contains caffeine, though less than black tea or coffee. Check the printed panel on the box for the current ingredient statement, since packaging can change between production runs.

How do I brew Kirkland Signature Green Tea and can I make iced tea?
Use one bag per cup with water at about 176 F (80 C), never boiling, and steep only 20 to 30 seconds while shaking the bag a few times. For iced tea, cold brew several bags in a pitcher of cold water in the refrigerator using the recipe on the inside flap of the box, then remove the bags.

What is the difference between sencha and matcha in this blend?
Sencha is steamed Japanese green tea leaf with a smooth, grassy flavor, and it forms the base inside each bag. Matcha is finely ground green tea powder that dissolves into the water, adding a brighter green color and a rounder, umami-rich taste. Together they give a fuller cup than a plain green tea bag.

Is Kirkland Signature Green Tea made in Japan?
Yes. The box is labeled Product of Japan and the tea is produced by ITO EN from 100 percent Japanese tea leaves, then sold under Costco's Kirkland Signature label and distributed by Costco Wholesale. Each box holds 100 diamond-shaped bags of 1.5 g each, 5.29 oz (150 g) in total, and is sold as a single box.
