How to Use
Read the leaflet and do the skin allergy test 48 hours before every use, even if you have used Colorsilk before. Put on the gloves, add the colorant to the developer bottle, and shake until blended. Apply to dry, unwashed hair, starting at the roots for touch-ups or working from roots to ends for a full application, then wait 25 minutes. Rinse with warm water until it runs clear, apply the after-color conditioner, leave it for two minutes, and rinse. Store unopened kits in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight, and discard any mixed color you do not use right away, since it cannot be saved for later.

I've been coloring my hair at home for over 25 years. I mainly buy hair dye based on the color, brand is secondary because sometimes it's difficult to find the perfect shade, but other things are important too like smell, feel of hair, coverage, damage, and fading. But the shade is where I start. My original color back in the day was light brown but I colored it dark auburn for over a decade. I paid $13.99 for a box which is very reasonable. A few months ago, I made the transition back to light brown and started leaving out some of my white hair to slowly incorporate for a more natural look. The white coming into the dark auburn color was harsh and jarring to lookil at and I had to do my roots every 4 weeks. My hair is now 85% white and no one my age realistically doesn't have some gray/white shining through and it's not normal to have one solid hair color at 60. I tried a few other brands but didn't get the shade I had in mind, it didn't cover the white hair regrowth I didn't want showing, or it left my hair feeling extremely dry, damaged, and brittle. This Revlon Colorsilk (shade 51) hair dye was so inexpensive I was afraid to try it, but it's fabulous! I haven't found a downside at all. It comes with gloves and deep conditioner like more expensive brands. The conditioner comes in a flat pack instead of a tube, so what? It covers all the white hair I don't want showing, the shade is perfect and consistent each time, and my hair isn't left feeling dry, damaged, stripped, and like straw. I color every 6-7 weeks now and the color never fades. My hair feels soft and it has a pleasant smell. It's such a soft, pretty color that has dimension not a solid monochrome color. This is a really good price as I'm now coloring my own hair since my hair dresser is no longer in business. Having a 3 pack is nice so I have it on hand instead of running to the store at the last minute. It comes with cheap clear plastic gloves, I prefer using something else but whatever works. I do recommend getting a rat tail brush , so you can part your hair and apply the color and brush it on your roots easy than just using your fingers. Also remember to use some kind of floor covering like old newspaper, cardboard, etc even maybe on the sink too as I notice sometimes there's a little splashing or dripping maybe that's just me. I tend to put my rat tail brush or comb down so if I have a newspaper ready to set it on that's always nice instead of accidently laying it on the sink. Always use some kind of conditioner, the package comes with one and it's really good, it will leave the hair very soft and manageable. Also I never cover my hair during the color developing time, I do wear an old t-shirt incase I get coloring on it, and because I have long hair past my shoulders I leave it on for 25 minutes after I go over everything to make sure I got the front.
